My Teaching Philosophy

When I first started playing guitar, there were songs that I loved so much that I was not content to merely listen to the music: I wanted to be so close to the music that it would come from me. This motivated me to learn the basics, to break down the songs I loved even if they were advanced, and to practice diligently. Every time I learned a song that I loved, I'd experience an expansion of my musical abilities, my aesthetic sense, and even myself as a person. I've been doing this for 13 years now and I will never stop.
Four years ago I decided I wanted to help other people experience this too, so I started teaching and offer myself as a mentor to help people identify the music that they love and how to play it, be that on the guitar, the drums, or the bass.
Parents are more than welcome - even encouraged - to join their kids while I teach them, as parents are the primary educators of their children and I am an outsourced specialist.
Music, consisting of harmony and rhythm, has taught me how single parts can interact well with each other to make a beautiful whole (harmony) in a way that is grounded, consistent, and disciplined (rhythm.) This is almost immediately scaleable to life lessons in relationships, family, and character development. One of the best things we have in an advanced society is the opportunity to make music.
